High Atlas trekking M'Goun (4071 m)

Morocco hiking, Atlas mountains.

Itinerary Morocco hiking Atlas mountains.

Marrakech - Ait Bouguemez valley

After breakfast we start the adventure in Marrakech. We drive to the Ait Bouguemez valley, have lunch in the town of Azilal and continue our journey to the mountains of the High Atlas. For the first time, the panorama of the M'Goun opens up to us. We pass through numerous Berber villages and finally reach the place where we meet our mules and their guides. Thanks to them, our trip becomes much easier as they are responsible for carrying our luggage, food and tents. We lace up our hiking boots and after a first short hike we reach the village of Ikiss N'Aaros (2300 m), where we spend the night in a tent.

Trakddit

Today it's uphill: After a few hours of marching we reach the pass Aghray at 3400 m. From there, we can already see our destination, the mighty M'Goun. The adrenaline is rising, but for now we descend to Base Camp Tarkkedit at 2200m. There we will rest for the rest of the afternoon to get used to the altitude and to spare our legs. Again we spend the night in the tent.

M'Goun summit - Oulilimt

After an early breakfast we start still in the dark into the day of the days: Upwards, always upwards it goes over stick and stone up to 4000 m. If it's not the hike that takes your breath away, it's certainly the view of southern Morocco. The last short ascent, often accompanied by the wind, leads us to the summit. We briefly enjoy the view and then descend to the campsite at Oulilimt.

4

Ait Imi

Today we hike back to the Ait Bouguemez valley, this time via pass Tizi N'Ait Imi at 2900m. On the summit we eat, enjoy once again the view of the M'Goun massif and descend to the village, where we spend the night directly at a water source.

Marrakech

After the days in rather rough, isolated nature, a different scenery awaits us today: lush, green fields, fertile plains. On the easy tour we are sure to encounter locals working in their fields. They harvest and carry grass to their houses - a job that is mainly done by women. We learn more about their culture and way of life. After lunch at Timmit, we head back to the big city - Marrakech.

Time to say goodbye. We hope you had an unforgettable time. Maybe you will come again?
