Itinerary Morocco trekking and Hiking M'Goun
1
Marrakech - Ait Bouguemez valley
In Marrakech you will meet our guide and the driver, then you will start a 4-hour drive to Azilal, the capital in the High Atlas Mountains. There you will have lunch and a first exploration. Then it's on to the Ait Bouguemez valley, a fertile plain at 1800m. The scenic drive alone with views of the imposing mountains of the High Atlas, the terraced gardens of the locals and their fields, the apple and nut trees is an experience. Upon arrival, we have tea and explore the area with its traditional adobe houses. The inhabitants of the valley will welcome you with a broad smile - not for nothing is the valley called "The happy valley". We spend the night in the guesthouse.
2
Tighrmte N'Ait Hamed
Today we lace up our hiking boots and cross the main village of the valley, which contains numerous villages and has a total of about 15,000 inhabitants. We climb up to Tizi N'Ait Imi at 2900m. Here we enjoy the view of the just deserted valley and on the descent of the valley of M'Goun. We descend to our camp at Tighremt n'Ait Hamed where we gear up for the next day of hiking and spend the night in the tents.
3
Imi N'Irekt
Today we hike through the Ouzighimt Valley, learning about the Berber culture and way of life. The valley is intensively used for agriculture and is usually well watered by the melt water from the surrounding mountains. We see how the inhabitants work in their fields, harvest grass, irrigate their crops. All the time we go along the river, the lifeline of the valley. At Oued Taghraft we have lunch and later reach our camp at the village of Imin n'Irekt.
4
Tighanimine village
Hopefully not cold, but only wet feet await us on our march along the river M'Goun. We cross it several times on our route. Especially in summer, the steep rock walls that line the river provide welcome shade. We have lunch near a spring and later reach the camp at the village of Tiranimine.
5
Boutaghrar village
We don't have to go hungry today: we hike through the fertile valley, through plantations of fig, apple and walnut trees. Boutaghrar is the final point of our hike.
6
Marrakech
On the way back to Marrakech, we pass through the oasis town of Kelaa M'Gouna, which has about 20,000 inhabitants. It is known as Morocco's Rose City and lies on the "Road of 1000 Kasbahs," which runs for 300 kilometers from Errachidia to Ouarzazate and connects the High Atlas with the Anti-Atlas. Also on the way is Ait-Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a well-known movie set. We return to Marrakech via the Tichka Pass (2260 m).
Time to say goodbye. We hope you had an unforgettable time. Maybe you will come again?
